Be the Village: Fighting Food Insecurity in Starkville

At Bridgeway Church, we believe in being the hands and feet of Jesus, caring for those in need. This summer, we are launching Be the Village, a program dedicated to supporting local students facing food insecurity.

Who We Are Helping

During the summer of 2025, Bridgeway Church will provide groceries and grocery gift cards to students from Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary, Overstreet Elementary, and Partnership Middle School who rely on free meals during the school year. Each family will receive groceries and a $40 Walmart gift card per child per month to help bridge the gap.

How You Can Help

We need your support to make this happen! You can help by donating groceries or contributing funds to purchase gift cards.

Ways to Donate:

  • Monetary Donations: Give anytime via the Church Center App, Venmo (@bridgewaystarkville), or cash/check. Please include “Be the Village” in the memo line.
  • Food Donations: Drop off non-perishable food items at Bridgeway Church by the following deadlines:
    • May 27 (for June distribution)
    • June 26 (for July distribution)

Items We Are Collecting:

  • Pantry Staples: Vegetable oil (48 oz), peanut butter (18 oz), rice (1 lb), quick oats (42 oz)
  • Canned Goods: Potatoes (15 oz), mixed vegetables (15 oz), beans (15 oz), green beans (15 oz x2), tuna (6 oz x2), chicken (6 oz x2), spaghetti sauce (26.5 oz)
  • Dry Goods: Spaghetti noodles (16 oz), macaroni & cheese (7.25 oz)

Why This Matters

Mississippi has opted out of the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer Program, leaving many children without reliable access to food. Bridgeway Church is stepping in to meet this need. Jesus fed the hungry, and so should we.

Together, we can Be the Village for these children and families. Thank you for being a part of this mission! For more information, contact Bridgeway Church.
